Transylvania
The name "Transylvania", "Beyond the forests", stands for the territory located in the middle of Romania, surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, a great, scenic, travel treasure.
It has another name, which translated literally from German means the seven castles, which were founded by the Saxons, who had been brought into the country at the command of the Hungarian king, to protect the border. The seven castles, Bistrita (Bistritz), Brasov (Kronstadt), Cluj (Klausenburg), Medias (Mediasch), Sebes (Mühlbach), Sibiu (Hermannstadt) and Sighisoara (Schäßburg).
Other parts of the Romanian country (the Region of Satu Mare), the southern part of the former county of Maramures and Romanian part of Banat), are sometimes mistakenly added to Transylvania. Thus it is often slightly larger than the historical area shown.
